Courses / ToP® Strategic Planning
ToP® Strategic Planning · After TFM
Lead a planning process your people will actually carry out.
Strategic planning doesn’t have to mean a binder on a shelf. In two days you’ll learn a step-by-step process that takes any group, from a five-person team to a whole community, from “where are we going?” to a plan with owners and dates.

Is this for you?
→ You’ve been asked to lead your organization’s next strategic plan.
→ You’re an executive director or board chair who wants a plan staff and board actually own.
→ You support coalitions or communities that need a shared plan across many partners.
→ You’re a consultant or facilitator who wants a proven planning approach.
What the two days look like
The full process, in order
You practice each stage as a participant, then as the facilitator, and see how the TFM methods fit together.
Adapted to your reality
How to scale it to a full retreat, a single day or a series of shorter meetings.
You leave with the step-by-step manual and a draft design for a planning session you’re facing.
What people say
“The ToP Strategic Planning course provides a well-defined, concrete method to guide a strategic planning process while still building in flexibility to accommodate the unique needs and dynamics of the group.”
Lesley Reeder · Senior Consultant in Healthcare
“This training provides the framework for doing strategic planning that includes all voices from an organization — from the CEO to the boots on the ground — and values all voices equally.”
Jessica Seberger · Health Program Manager
Where this leads
From one plan to a lasting practice.
Keep the plan alive
Secrets of Implementation (TSI) covers the months after the retreat, when most plans stall.
Earn the credential
TFM and TSP are the two core courses toward the Certified ToP® Facilitator (CTF).
Professional development
Getting your organization to invest
Your supervisor will want three things: the cost, what you’ll be able to do, and which credentials it counts toward. The request letter puts all three in one email.
Five or more people?
Bring a course to your team
I can bring TSP to your organization, adapted to your meetings and your space, often for less per person than public seats.
Questions people ask
Why do I need TFM first?
The planning process is built from the TFM methods. TSP spends its time on how they fit together, not on learning them from scratch.
Does it work for small groups?
Yes. The same process works for a team of five and a community of a hundred.
What’s included?
The official ToP® manual, one hour of coaching with your trainer within 90 days, and the Great Plains ToP Community of Practice.
